Expansion Joints
Metrail can supply and install multiple types of bridge expansion joints (or movement joints) for the construction and maintenance of bridges, viaducts and other moving road elements and infrastructure assets. Expansion joints enable continuous traffic between two structures and control structural movements that arise from creep and shrinkage effects, temperature variations or deformations under live load. M62 Scammonden Bridge Waterproofing & Joint Replacement | Metrail Construction
Metrail Construction Ltd successfully completed a full deck refurbishment of Scammonden Bridge, a vital structure on the M62 motorway in West Yorkshire, as part of National Highways’ maintenance programme. The project, conducted from April to October 2024, involved removing the existing surfacing, applying advanced Eliminator waterproofing, resurfacing, and installing new expansion joints. Delivered on time and within budget, the refurbishment ensures enhanced durability and safety with minimal traffic disruption, reinforcing Scammonden Bridge's iconic status on the UK motorway network.
Metrail: Thurrock Road Stabilisation
In March 2023 Metrail Construction completed a trial to stabilise a heavily trafficked section of asphalt pavement carriageway on the A1014 in Thurrock in East London.
Metrail: M180 Concrete Road Refurbishment (Innovative Resin Injection Technology)
With sections of the motorway in need of refurbishment, Metrail employed a resin-stabilisation technology from Germany to provide innovative, cost-effective and time-efficient solutions for renovating the concrete pavement on a five-kilometre stretch of the east-bound carriageway of the M180, returning that stretch of pavement to Class A without completely replacing the running surface of the motorway.
