Motion Control for Bridges & FloorsLight, flexible structures such as bridges can be susceptible to wind, pedestrian and vehicle-induced vibrations. With continual improvements in materials and design techniques, these increasingly efficient structures become ever more sensitive to these dynamic forces. With little intrinsic damping and limited practical methods to shift the structure’s mass and stiffness to a configuration with lower dynamic response, the resulting vibrations can result in disconcerting or even dangerous motions. The implementation of an SDS has proven to be a very effective means to control these dynamic motions while using less materials and with little or no impact on the architecture of the design. For bridges, the SDS is typically in the form of a tuned mass damper (TMD).

Bridge Cable Damper
The Motioneering Cable Damper is a modular damping system composed of steel rings
fixtured to wire ropes. The damper can be mounted to existing bridge stay and/or hanger
cables to reduce wind- and rain-induced vibrations and the associated fatigue damage
at the cables’ connections.
This damper’s novel configuration allows it to be mounted around an existing cable
resulting in an aesthetically pleasing damping solution.
Moreover, the damper’s low mass, modular design, and standardized connection details
allow for simple installation with minimal time onsite during commissioning.
