Bridges NEW Roundtable Discussion and Seminar Day on 14th March
Day 2 of Bridges 2024 will offer three insightful sessions focused on the themes of carbon reduction, engineering ethics, and digital asset management, culminating at the end of the day in a roundtable discussion led by subject-matter experts.
The first session will be hosted by Bob McKittrick, co-founder of the UK Anti-Corruption Forum in 2004, former Main Board Director of Scott Wilson (now AECOM), and President of IStructE 2002/2003. Drawing from a distinguished career in civil engineering in the UK and abroad, Bob will present on the multi-faceted area of ethics and the engineer in the context of justice, working in difficult parts of the world, environmental considerations, and artificial intelligence, whilst also seeking input from the audience.
A second session will seek to offer practical approaches for reducing carbon from planning to execution. What does this mean for each part of the value chain? And how can it be carried out effectively?
The third seminar session will home in on the factors to consider when incorporating digital technology into bridge asset management, including opportunities, challenges, and experiences from asset owners. What does a successful implementation look like? And how does artificial intelligence fit in?
The day's proceedings will lead into a roundtable discussion chaired by Steve Denton of WSP looking at whole-life design, construction, and management.
Speakers and organisations confirmed include Jo Bonnet (COWI), Hazel McDonald (Transport Scotland), Net Zero Bridges Group and Raed El Sarraf (WSP).
