Now with almost 50 years’ experience in the design, construction, maintenance and management of bridges in both the public and private sectors, Richard is acknowledged as one the UK’s experts on bridge collapses. He is a former chair of the UK Bridges Board and has recently retired as technical secretary of the Bridge Owners Forum.

He is the co-editor of the book on Highway Bridge Management, published in 2023 and has also written another on bridge collapses and the need to learn from them.

He is Fellow of both the ICE and the IStructE.
